This holiday typically involves picnics, backyard barbecues, beach days, and other celebratory activities. Another way is by watching a Memorial Day themed movie that typically consists of a film about war. Here is a list of ten amazing movies to watch on this holiday.

1. Megan Leavey (2017)

If you love watching movies about dogs, then this is the one for you. It’s filled with lots of adventure and action. Megan Leavey is a movie that is based on an accurate tale about Megan, who is a marine corporal and her resilient combat dog.

2. D-Day (2004)

This film retells how 160,000 allied forces invaded the beaches in Normandy, located in France. This movie is a classic thriller and leaves you clinging onto your seats.

3. American Sniper (2014)

This movie has big names that were featured. Bradley Cooper stars in the movie, and Clint Eastwood directs it. It revolves around the Navy Seal character Chris Kyle, one of the most dangerous snipers in American history. Kyle has a story that is filled with love, triumph, and anguish. This is based on a true story and helps to remember the veteran when murdered tragically two years before the movie came out.

If you love racing and speeding, Top Gun is your best option for an excellent movie on Memorial Day. This story revolves around a brave pilot named Pete Mitchell, also known as Maverick. He encounters quite a unique bond of bromance and epic romance.

5. Apocalypse Now (1979)

This is an iconic movie about a military captain named Martin Sheen, who is on a high-level mission to assassinate a great American colonel. This thrilling and dramatic film results in an astonishing eight Oscar nominations, including Best Director and Best Picture.

The movie Born on the Fourth of July is about Ron Kovic, who was paralyzed unexpectedly during the Vietnam War. He learned a valuable lesson about peace. Ron’s book inspired this movie. In this film, Tom Cruise plays Ron Kovic, and he discovers his newfound feelings on Patriotism.

In 1944 on the beaches of Normandy, there were Allied forces who stormed in. This was the longest day for these troops. For 57 years running, it’s still widely considered one of the premier World War II movies in the history of war films.

10. Black Hawk Down (2001)

The film Black Hawk down reminds us of a forgotten mission that took place in Somalia. The U.S. troops were on a mission to kidnap two supreme lieutenants who worked under a dangerous Somali warlord. This film received nods for Best Cinematography and Best Director. Not to mention, it also won two Oscars.
